Three Simple Tips for Being a Product Marketer


Product marketing is one of the most uniquely specialized areas within the overall field of marketing, as well as one of the most important. Unfortunately, many marketers aren’t sure what product marketing does or has responsibility for. To clarify, here are three simple tips to help:

1) Product marketing sits at the intersection of the internal development team(s), sales and channel partners, and external customers and acts as the conduit to gather and pass information back and forth between these groups.

2) Product marketing plays a key role in ensuring that market information and customer feedback is communicated to the development teams, that products being developed meet the needs of both customers and the marketplace, and that all sales and customer-facing organizations have the right training, tools and information needed to sell.

3) Product marketing is crucial to the successful launch of products and is critical to enabling the sales process.

By following these three simple tips, you’ll better understand what a product marketer is and does.
