Marketing uses social media (SM) daily because it’s a great
way to engage with customers. Unfortunately, many marketers don’t know how to
select a SM platform. To help, here are three simple tips:
1) Know the type of reach you want. Do you need to target
specific types of users or a more general population? Do you need to drive
awareness to large numbers or focus on a more targeted set of accounts?
2) Know the type of engagement you want. Do you want to
provide a video demo? Provide information via a narrative? Do you want to be
able to “talk” with them in real-time?
3) Know your customers and how, when, and in what format
they prefer to get information. This tells you the type of SM to consider (ex:
YouTube for video, Twitter for short information bursts or discussions, podcasts
for audio, LinkedIn for discussions, etc).
BONUS TIP: If you’re going to use social media for
marketing, make sure you have a well-defined listening program in place so you
can respond quickly.
By following these three simple tips, choosing the right SM
platform will be easier and your marketing will be more effective.
